HEART of THE EARTH: Ceremonial Drum Making Workshop/Retreat

Heart of the Earth:

Ceremonial Drum Workshop with Brooke Gillespie & Matt Canale

(presented by 2 Wolves Center in collaboration with Golden Drum)

Saturday August 31st : 10am to 7pm, plus optional ceremony 9/1 (you may attend this as a workshop or a retreat). This will take place at a special location in LINCOLN, VT.

“And I say the sacred hoop of my people was one of the many hoops that made one circle, wide as daylight and as starlight, and in the center grew one mighty flowering tree to shelter all the children of one mother and one father.” ~ Black Elk

The drum is a sacred instrument that invokes the heart and speaks a universal language. Its rhythmic heartbeat is at center of ceremonies held by people all over the world. The shamanic drum is used to communicate with the Spirit and to connect our hearts with the heartbeat of the Earth. It is a powerful medicine that heals the body, heart, mind, and spirit.

In this workshop we will come together in a sacred space to create our own ceremonial drums and learn a frame drum-tying technique that has been passed on to us by our teacher Maestro Manuel Rufino.

We will be making one-sided hand drums, using wooden frames made of maple or cedar, elk, deer or cow hide, and sinew.

The creation of the drum is a prayer and a ceremony in itself. Through out the day we will be in meditation so that our thoughts and intentions remain in a high vibration as they create the drum and through that process become a part of the drum. During that time we will paint the frame of our drum while we listen to and learn sacred songs from different Native traditions.

We will conclude the workshop with a sacred fire blessing and gratitude circle.
